Molly Murray - Birth, Life, and Business Doula
Making Decisions in Pregnancy, Birth and BeyondAs a Birthing From Within Mentor and a Cincinnati and N. Kentucky Doula, something I spend a lot of time doing is talking with parents about informed consent and decision making. No matter the time or what's in question, if you're feeling unsure about something, it's a good idea to slow down and use the B.R.A.I.N acronym. In pregnancy, the decisions you face could be choosing to birth at the hospital closer to your home or the birth center that is a little further away or whether or not you should have your best friend in the birth room. As you near your due date, the decisions could be whether or not to have your membranes swept or to be induced. In labor, the decisions you are facing could be as simple as wearing your own clothes or whether or not to eat in labor...or as complicated as whether or not you'll choose to get the epidural or have your water broken. A quality childbirth class will help you to assimilate information prenatally to what the benefits and risks of such are...and an even better childbirth class will help you tap into your intuition and what will truly serve you in pregnancy, birth and beyond. So, what is the B.R.A.I.N acronym? B - What are the benefits? R - What are the risks? A - What is the alternative? I - What is my intuition telling me? N - What if we do nothing? If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to me! I'd love to hear what you think of the B.R.A.I.N acronym, whether you've used it before or plan to use it in labor. As always, I'm here for you!
